Budapest Travel Diaries

After getting back from Hawaii (read my posts here), I jumped on a plane and flew to Europe to kick off the start of my family vacation. We usually head to tropical countries for our annual summer trip, but since I just spent 10 days basking in the sun, we decided to go another route this year. This is actually my first time in Europe and I really did not expect it to live up to the hype that all of my friends who have previously visited have created. I mostly lived vicariously through Jess' study abroad adventures last fall when she lived in Austria and after seeing all her pictures and hearing her stories for over 6 months now, it is unbelievable to finally be in Europe myself (seriously, somebody pinch me). Since I am going to London later this summer for my work training, I decided that I wanted to explore a bit of Eastern Europe for this trip. My first stop was Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and while it is often overlooked by most tourists for other more popular destinations (France, Spain, England), I can say that I am absolutely in love with this city. I stayed at the Bohem Art Hotel, which was located in the heart of the Pest side of the city and was able to see so much in a span of 2 days. For those who are unaware, Budapest is split into two sides by the Danube River. The Buda side, the western side of the river, offers more scenic views since it is located on higher ground, while the Pest side is rather flat. The Pest side is, however, more modernized and remains more "city like" with modern shops and restaurants. Both sides have their own personality and I recommend spending at least 1-2 days exploring each side to get the full experience this city has to offer! Buda Side:

- Castle Hill

Matthias Church

Fisherman's Bastion

Pest Side:

- Chain Bridge

St. Stephen's Basilica

Central Market Hall

Thermal Bath

Hungarian Parliament

Hungarian State Opera

Cafe Gerbeaud
