Brooklyn has definitely changed over the years, and we've loved watching it become one of the new trendiest places in New York to live! We don't make it down to the DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass) area too often, but it definitely has a special place in our hearts since we've had some great memories with friends and family here.
We decided to do our shoot on one of the most popular streets for photo ops in the area, Washington Street. You can see the Manhattan Bridge perfectly, and it's as picturesque as it gets.
Jess: There was a phase I had in the beginning of my college days when I really loved buying button-down dress shirts and chambray shirts (my top pick is definitely J.Crew). I somehow hoarded them over the years, and now I feel so prepared for both casual and work days in the office! I paired my simple, classic top with a pair of darker blue, asymmetrical shorts and decided to add a pop of color with this orange clutch (Fun fact- I used this clutch for my high school prom with my hot pink dress, since I was going for the whole color-blocking thing back in the day too. I remember Mel telling me that it looked dumb but ever since then, I've always loved the combo of pink and orange). I'm also a huge fan of playing with complementary colors, so bring on the purple/yellow and green/red. There might technically be a science behind the color wheel, but that doesn't mean that you cannot play around and experimenting to find what you love!
Mel: This outfit brings me back to those early morning college classes when I practically lived in a t-shirt/tank and jeans. I love the simplicity of this outfit, since I basically just threw on a striped red and white tank over my absolute favorite pair of skinny jeans (a combo that everyone surely has in their closet!) I bought these jeans last summer at Topshop and although they were quite a bit more then what I usually pay for, I do not regret it one bit. They are soft and extremely stretchy, and I am currently contemplating whether I should buy a darker rinse pair for the Fall/Winter season. (If you guys have any recommendations on an inexpensive, but good quality pair of jeans, please let me know.) To changes things up a little and make my look edgier, I wrapped a blue and white patterned bandana around my neck (one of the biggest trends we've seen this year). I also really wanted to play with the lines and was inspired by Jess's obsession with color blocking for this outfit, so I added a white and blue satchel from Kate Spade. The pieces alone are very simple but make a much bigger statement when paired together!
We hope you enjoy this post and leave us comments about what you think about these outfits!
