Spring Trends: White Sneakers

Now that the weather is finally warming up and the snow has completely melted in NYC, it is time to pack away those over-the-knee boots and break out the flats, sandals, and sneakers! Since we both fall on the more feminine side of the style spectrum, we are usually drawn to heels and flats, typically shying away from sneakers in most of our outfit choices. However, we recently jumped on the white sneakers bandwagon and decided to rock some for ourselves after seeing them worn and loved by celebrities and fashion bloggers season after season. Turns out, they are probably one of the most versatile pair of shoes we now own, and better yet, they area super comfy too!

Jess: On an unrelated-to-fashion side note, I actually just moved to a neighborhood very close by to Katz Delicatessen, and often find myself passing by this retro restaurant on my way to brunches and bars in the Lower East Side. I’ve never had one of their pastrami sandwich there yet, but trust me, it’s definitely on my bucket list this summer. I've been eyeing Katz as a backdrop for one of our lookbooks, so I'm super excited about this vision finally coming to life!

Graphic tees were never my go-to fashion staple, since I always preferred more feminine blouses and lace tops. However, my style has definitely evolved over time, and I find myself much more open to wearing pieces I probably would have graced over before. I picked up this "Cool Vibes" crop tee from Forever 21 in Times Square after I had repeatedly added it to my online shopping for weeks on end when window shopping for our trip next month. I love the simplicity of the top and the effortless vibes or rather “cool vibes” it gives off. The bits of red accent also add just enough color for me to make a bold statement. When I wear cropped tops, I normally gravitate toward pairing them with high-waisted pants or shorts, since it’s flattering on most body types, and has never failed me thus far when I am stuck in a fashion rut. These jeans are a slim, cropped fit, but have some unexpected fun embroidery and detailing at the very bottom, which I absolutely LOVE! Having this pop of color and texture near my ankles also draws the eye toward the type of shoes I am wearing, which is a brand new pair of crisp, white Converse sneakers I picked up for those long summer walks I will be taking in the following months. These kicks will definitely be my go-to choice for footwear, since there are so many ways I can wear them for casual outfits this upcoming season.

Mel: I purchased my Stan Smith Adidas sneakers after my trip from South Africa (check it out here) where I realized that the one thing I desperately needed and currently lacked in my wardrobe was a pair of comfortable, yet stylish sneakers. Before my Stan Smiths, I only owned 2 other pair of kicks at home which were (1) Nike running sneakers covered in mud (thanks to all the hiking I did in Hawaii), and (2) beat up Converses from high school. If I ever created a capsule wardrobe (which will never happen, since I like to have options), these sneakers will most definitely be the first thing I include in my capsule since they are so versatile and can dress down in any outfit.

After 5 days of wearing stuffy business pants, I wanted to feel comfortable, so I pulled these high-waisted Tilden pants from Brandy Melville. A high waist and vertical stripes add length to your figure and makes your legs look like they go on for days! Since they are the full-length on me instead of being cropped (petite girl problems), I cuffed the bottoms for a more relaxed look and to add a little ankle space for my shoes. Since the bottoms are a bit baggy on me, I opted for a mustard yellow form fitting bodysuit and threw on a denim jacket to complete my L.A. cool girl inspired outfit.
