Now that we are nearing the end of August and only 1 short month away from the first day of Autumn, restyling our wardrobe and adding a few new pieces to our ever-growing closets are definitely on the forefront of our minds (especially after the Nordstrom Anniversary sale)! However, before every big seasonal shopping trip, we like to reevaluate the pieces I already own and love in our current capsule collection and how they can be used to transition into the new season.
Mel: A few of my quintessential summer items that will not be stored away into my parents' basement this year are pop-over tops (here, here and here) which can easily be used as a layering piece, duster jackets (here), and loose fitting trousers. Though I am still very much wearing dresses and flippy skirts to the office as my corporate uniform, I have been throwing in a few of my fall transition outfits every so often, especially on a crisper day. One of my go to techniques of styling a transitional outfit is wearing fall pieces with a summer palette. An outfit I wore last Thursday was layering a mock turtleneck under a dusty rose sleeveless vest with my worn in white trousers from Zara. I love how the pink and white color palette of my look balances out the traditional Fall pieces (turtleneck, vest). This is a classic transitional ensemble that screams even though the time for making apple cider donuts is right around the corner, popsicle season is still not over yet!
Jess: When it comes to picking out a cool business casual outfit, I tend to gravitate towards an easy combination of dress pants and a blouse since I always seem to be freezing in the office no matter what season it is. For Autumn, I love mixing summer and Fall colors in my wardrobe, and this blush pink and burgundy look is the perfect example of this combination! I love the frill details of my pants because it makes a simple pair of dress pants a bit more exciting and eye-catching without being overstated, and I added a statement necklace to my rather plain chiffon blouse to complete the look.
We are super excited for the upcoming season and can't wait to start sharing our Fall lookbook with you soon. Stay tuned!
Love Always,
Jess & Mel
