Spring Trends: Black and White Polka Dots

When you live in a city like New York, everyone around you pretty much marches to the beat of their own drum. Everyone has their own unique sense of fashion, and that's what makes it such a fun place to live and feel comfortable with your personal style. Don't get me wrong, I definitely choose my outfits according to what I feel like wearing to work or for brunch or how my mood is, but I do get excited for new trends that I see, especially during fashion week season. I follow plenty of bloggers on Insta-land, but I also occasionally read Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar to see what shows up on the runway every season.

The best thing about trends for me is that it gives me new inspiration when I sometimes fall into a rut and routine of switching off between my normal business casual for work and lulu lemon pieces for the gym. I love finding ways to incorporate a trend to make a very "Jess" outfit, and it's always a fun series to do every year on Penny & Dash.

I've been seeing polka dots absolutely everywhere this time of the year - in clothing stores, front page of online shops, on the streets and subway, and of course on fashion blogs and fashion week re-caps. Black and white polka dots seem to be the "it" trend of the season, and luckily, I found there to be so many different ways to rock this print considering how versatile and universal it is!

I styled an outfit that I would wear to the office by choosing a bold, puffy-sleeved, slightly cropped top and pairing it with super high-waisted cotton trousers with lace detailing. Personally, I find it very work appropriate despite the fact that the polka dot top is cropped since barely any skin shows with the pants I paired with it. I absolutely love the fit, since it fits loosely on the arms and just right at the mid-waist, making it such a figure flattering piece. I would also pair this top with high-waisted shorts or a pair of brightly colored skinny jeans and booties. I picked out some of my favorite black and white polka-dotted pieces here for you guys since I came across so many cute things while doing some light online window shopping while waiting for planes and trains these past couple of weeks. Hope you like them!
