Bruges is a must-visit place if you are in Belgium, and I absolutely recommend a day trip to see this quaint town. We took a day trip from Brussels since it was only a 1 hour train ride away, and we had so much fun exploring the dozens of chocolate shops, walking around the hundreds of alleys, and enjoying warm waffles. In 5-6 hours, we pretty much walked through most of Bruges, especially since we joined the free walking tour departing from the Market Square at noon. These tours are awesome since they are in fact free, and you only tip the tour guide at the end the amount you think they deserve based on how much you enjoyed the tour. In an hour and a half, we learned a lot about the history of Bruges, its legends, and saw famous sites from the movie, In Bruges (which I still have yet to watch!).
If you have been following this blog or seen me in person, you know that my go-to outfit is definitely a skirt with some kind of crop top, since it is easily my "comfort outfit". This thick, cotton skirt is very full because of the pleats in the design, which I absolutely love. I paired the neutral skirt with a staple, black lace crop top with delicate details, and chose some taupe oxfords I've had in my closet for years (but didn't break out until this year). Bruges was extremely hot the day I visited, so I kept the sun out of my face with a simple cream sunhat I bought in Santorini.
Tips, Tricks. and FYIs
If you have the time, do a full day in Ghent as well as Bruges, since they are both beautiful and close to Brussels (30 minutes and 1 hour, respectively)
Tickets cost us <30 Euro round trip, although you might want to look into cheaper options or buses
