With Fall right around the corner, it is time to put away the sundresses and coral lipsticks, and break out the suede skirts and denim jackets. It is crazy to think that we will not be returning to college this coming September and instead will be referred to as 1st year analysts, now that we are joining corporate life. We had an amazing, adventure-filled summer, but the time has come to turn those skater skirts into pencil skirts, off the shoulder shirts into blouses and peplums, and formally enter the adult world with full force and confidence. With the official start of our business careers taking off, we are so excited to finally launch Corporate Classics where we will be sharing the posts on anything and everything that is related to the daily 9-5 job.
The first couple of weeks into Fall are still relatively warm here in September, so although it may be too early to be wrapped up in layers, you can still be dressed for the pumpkin-spice latte season without breaking a sweat. One way to do this is by trading in those summer brights and whites for pieces that resemble a little more of the fall foliage - mellow yellow, burnt orange and our personal favorite - oxblood!
Mel: I have been obsessed with oxblood for a couple of years now and luckily this color is still on trend for this fall. Since my skirt is not only dark, but also pretty thick in terms of material, I wanted to contrast the heaviness of the pencil skirt by pairing it with a white, lightweight blouse. Both of these items are from Banana Republic, one of my go to stores when it comes to shopping for work outfits, along with J-crew and Zara. To break up the solid colored pieces, I tied a braided brown and black rope belt around my waist and finished this outfit with my favorite pair of shoes from Tory Burch.
Jess: Peplum tops have always been a staple item in my closet, and my history with them goes as far back as the beginning of my middle school days! Luckily, this cut is still appropriate for work, which makes the transition from casual to business casual so much easier for me. I was really drawn to the colors of this striped, cap-sleeved top, since it incorporates oxblood. I chose to pair the top with these skinny grey dress pants from Express, though peplums also look great with a pencil skirt. I kept the shoes simple with some pointed-toe flats. My briefcase is a monogrammed one from the Cambridge Satchel Company (see below for link), and I absolutely love how classy it is. It's definitely a statement work piece, and people always ask me where I get it!
We've been really excited for Corporate Classics, since its so relevant to our lives and what we will be wearing for 80% of our week. We hope you enjoy it too and take some inspiration for your work wardrobe :)
