I've always been one to decorate my bedroom, whether it came to doing DIY projects inspired by Pinterest for my childhood room back in New Jersey, or decorating my multiple dorm rooms and apartment units throughout my time in college. Even though most of these spaces were temporary and I knew I would have to pack everything up again in a couple of months, I was never deterred and always had some kind of vision for how I wanted my room to look and feel. Who doesn't want to come back home after an exhausting day to a place that makes them feel at ease and at peace?
If you missed our Apartment Hunting 101 post from a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I had moved into a new apartment in New York City recently, and I was so excited to finally have another new space to work with. For as long as I could remember, I was always inspired by a gold, white, and blush palette, and it wasn't until Melissa and I ate brunch at a West Village restaurant called While We Were Young, that I solidified bringing my dream color palette to life, and decided to add a hint of dusty blue to the mix.
My room is definitely small if you've ever had a chance to see it in person, but I absolutely love it and think it fits my personality pretty well. Keep reading on it you're interested in more decor details!
I am a big fan of jewelry racks and holders, and I've gone through quite a few in my lifetime, always opting to get a different one every time I moved into a new place so it fits the new aesthetic. I picked this gold necklace bar from Target, and love that it can hold a variety of my accessories, including sunglasses, bracelets, and staple necklaces. On the right, I have a beautiful terracotta plant pot from Anthropologie that I filled with some fake blooms from the craft store. I love getting fresh bouquets of roses, but it definitely does not last very long, so faux plants do the trick and helps you save some cash from getting fresh flowers every week! I keep my nail polishes in an initialed mug I recently was gifted from my good friend who actually didn't know that the gold would fit perfectly in my room. Kudos to her for knowing my style!
I bought these beautiful drawings in a small shop in Paris last December, and never did anything with them but hide them away in an orange folder back at home. I decided that this new apartment would be the perfect opportunity to DIY some gold frames and hang them up above my bed! I went to the dollar tree and bought a few black frames, drove over to Michaels and bought some gold paint, and had myself a merry little crafting party in the living room. I personally found it difficult to find gold frames that were light enough to not cause a safety hazard for hanging above my head at night and also ones that were reasonably affordable. You can't beat $3 frames and $1 paint, and I had a great time painting them at home. I used a couple of command strips to hold them in place, and it totally does the trick!
One of my favorite parts of the day is when I get ready ready in the morning after I roll out of bed and brush my teeth. It doesn't take my very long to get ready, since I have my routine down, and I can usually make myself look presentable in about 10-15 minutes. If I have a little extra time in the morning, I will usually sip on some tea and watch new videos that pop up on my subscriptions on Youtube. If I'm really not rushing for time, I'll light my pineapple candle from Target (similar - H&M) since it smells like the tropics and puts me in a great mood for the day! I also light this candle every night in the evening, and I think it might be one of my favorite items that I have in my room.
When it comes to decorating small places, I've found it best not to overclutter. I keep the number of items on my side table to a minimum, and only have my lamp (from Urban Outfitters), globe, and mug on it at all times. A huge shout-out to my babes for these two dusty blue items (I'm telling you, everyone knew what was already in my head before any of my room came together - am I that predictable?!
And there is your inside-look on my room! My tastes always change throughout the years, but this classic color palette is one that I think I'll be loving for a while. I'm so happy I to finally show you what I've been working on this past month, and how it all finally came together!
