Make a Wish: A Starry Day in Cascais

November 2, 2017

One of the most exciting parts of our trips is the intricate planning process that is involved. We make every effort to map out what we want to do each day, which outfit would coordinate best with the other without loosing individual flare and style, and have a rough idea of the foodie stops we want to make in each city.

And while a majority of our Excel-detailed plan does get executed, our afternoon day in Cascais was definitely the most spontaneous out of our entire trip. Initially, we hoped to make a day trip to the wine town of Porto, but upon doing further research the morning of (guess we didn't plan this one out so well!), we realized Porto was over a 4 hour train ride each way, which seemed a bit too out of reach for us since we did not book accomodation there and planned to come back to Lisbon the same night. Instead, we took an Uber to a little fisherman town known as Cascais, which is famed for its sandy beaches and beautiful marina.

Jess: The start of Autumn signals cozy sweaters and warm, spiced lattes, but this season has finally boasted jacket weather, which is probably the post exciting thing for me. It was extremely warm this past October in NYC, and I admit that I was a bit disappointed since I love outerwear and have always had a love affair with buying jackets and coats.

I'm not exactly sure why, but I was so drawn to star clothing this season, and I went out of my way to purchase this denim jacket during the Friends & Family sale at Bloomingdale's last month. It is such an eye catching piece, and I have already worn it a couple times in the past month, sporting very different looks each time! It was quite warm in Cascais when we visited, so I paired the jacket with a tweed pair of shorts. However, for a casual day in NYC, I would probably layer a flannel underneath and rock it with some neutral jeans.

Mel: In case you haven't noticed, my uniform during this trip has been dresses, dresses and even more dresses. I "borrowed" this cute Mara Hoffman number from my sister's closet (perks of having a fashionable older sister) and knew it provided the perfect combination of comfort and style for exploring a new town. Mara Hoffman is one of my top designers when it comes to tropical vacation wear because of her flowy dresses and crazy prints. This celestial maxi is definitely one of her more subdued prints with the blush draping and the ombre stars. I love how the thin, minimal straps balanced out the length of the dress, making it the perfect thing to wear in 70 degree weather. While I was mainly barefoot when visiting the Boca De Inferno, I threw on a pair of cobalt slides from J.Cew during our tour of the lovely town and marina.
